Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence Gets Brutally Honest On Disappointing Season

The Jacksonville Jaguars were one of the most disappointing teams in football this season, and much of that was due to the subpar performance of Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence threw for 4,016 yards, 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while completing 65.6 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 88.5 this year, a massive step back from his breakout 2022 campaign.

The Jaguars ended up going 9-8 after losing five of their last six games, capped by a devastating Week 18 loss to the Tennessee Titans, which knocked Jacksonville out of the playoffs.

“Still need some more time to reflect and think about everything, a lot of lessons learned this year individually, as a team, as an organization, just things that we can do better moving forward and things that I can do better,” Lawrence said, via Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. “I know I need to play better consistently. Those things are disappointing, but I know we’re going to be better for it. I have no doubt about that.”

Lawrence went 29-for-43 with 280 yards, a couple of touchdowns and a pair of interceptions against the Titans. He threw seven picks over his last four games, all Jaguars losses. As a matter of fact, in the one game Jacksonville won over its last six weeks, Lawrence did not play due to a shoulder injury.

The Jags were 8-3 at one point and seemed destined to cruise to an AFC South division title, but things ultimately unraveled for the club.

“You never want to have to be in a situation to lose a game like that and miss the playoffs when there were so many expectations, so much positivity, so much to look forward to,” added Lawrence. “We thought we were going to go a lot further this year. The reality is, we weren’t able to do that. It’s disappointing and you’ve got to live with that.”

While the Jaguars certainly had more issues than just Trevor Lawrence in 2023, there is no question that the 24-year-old will have to play a whole lot better next season if Jacksonville wants to even think about contending for a Super Bowl.
