Provide a Needed Veteran Presence
Even though the New York Jets had signed Breshad Perriman in free agency, there was still a need for the team to add more talent at the wide receiver position. They took to the 2020 NFL Draft to accomplish that.
Mims possesses impressive versatility at 6-3 and is coming off a 2019 season that ended with 66 catches for 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns in 13 appearances. His performance was enough to earn First-Team All-Big 12 honors in a conference with plenty of intriguing talents.
The potential Mims possesses is impressive. At Baylor, he played with a limited route tree but has an expansive catch radius, can haul in contested catches, makes big plays after the catch, and can handle contact well on traffic catches.
It would be helpful for the Jets to have a receiver like AJ Green who can lead by example and show Mims what it takes to thrive in the NFL. Additionally, Green would be able to alleviate some pressure off Mims by consistently commanding focus from the opposition.
