Some are suggesting that the Chicago Bears blow things up by trading quarterback Justin Fields. Fields has not exactly won the Bears are over since being drafted in 2021, and with the club starting out 0-3 under his direction this season, some feel that it may be time to move on.
Chicago has between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline to make a move, and should it place Fields on the trade block, there would surely be some teams interested.
One such team could be the Las Vegas Raiders.
The Raiders signed Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year deal this past offseason, but the early returns on Garoppolo have not been great. He has thrown five touchdowns and a league-worst six interceptions through the first three weeks of the season, and he is currently in concussion protocol ahead of his club’s Week 4 matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Las Vegas could send Garoppolo, a 2024 first-round draft pick, a 2024 second-round pick and a 2025 second-rounder to Chicago in exchange for Fields.
The Bears would bring in some substantial draft capital in the deal, and they would also acquire a placeholder under center in Garoppolo. The Raiders would get out from under Garoppolo’s $72.5 million contract and would land a young signal-caller who obviously needs a change of scenery.
Fields is clearly not on the same page as Chicago’s coaching staff and said as much after Week 2, blaming the Bears coaches for his “robotic” play. He then put forth a miserable performance in Week 3, going 11-for-22 with 99 yards, a touchdowns and an interception in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The 24-year-old has gone just 5-23 as a starter, and things don’t seem to be getting any better. As a matter of fact, Justin Fields has actually regressed in Year 3, and much of that could be due to Chicago’s coaching staff misusing him. Perhaps Las Vegas can more properly utilize the Ohio State product.
