The Los Angeles Chargers are keeping edge rusher Khalil Mack, but they are restructuring his contract, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The move comes after the Chargers released wide receiver Mike Williams earlier on Wednesday, which saved them $20 million in cap space.

Los Angeles had the worst salary cap situation in the NFL entering the day and had to make a couple of moves before the new league year started at 4 p.m. ET.

Now, the Chargers are compliant with the league’s cap rules.

There was speculation that Los Angeles could trade Mack, but it opted to hold on to him.

Mack is coming off of a brilliant 2023 campaign in which he set a career-high with 17.5 sacks to go along with 74 tackles, five forced fumbles and 10 passes defended. He earned his eighth Pro Bowl appearance.

The 33-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Buffalo, was originally selected by the Oakland Raiders with the fifth overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He spent the first four years of his career with the Raiders, making three trips to the Pro Bowl while notching First-Team All-Pro honors twice. He also won Defensive Player of the Year in 2016.

The Raiders then traded Mack to the Chicago Bears in 2018. He went on to spend four seasons with the Bears, earning three Pro Bowl nods while notching one First-Team All-Pro selection.

Chicago dealt Mack to LA in 2022.

Khalil Mack had registered four straight seasons without logging double-digit sacks up until 2023. We’ll see what he does for an encore next year.
