Defensive Tackle
I know that the poll says the interior offensive line was the winner. And for a good reason. The Miami Dolphins offensive line has not been good this year. Injuries have played a massive factor in their poor performance, but the talent along the front leaves a lot to be desired as well. Factor in age with guys like Josh Sitton and it’s a significant problem area. One that should be addressed.
Here is where I must admit my failings. I have ZERO ideas what I’m looking at when it comes to evaluating the offensive line. Tackle, Guard, or Center, it doesn’t matter. Beyond “getting beat is bad, and they should not do that,” I don’t have anything intelligent to say about the incoming class. It’s not fair to my audience to make you trudge through uninformed analysis, so I’m not going to. One day I’ll get to a point where I know what I’m talking about with the big uglies up front, but today is not that day.
With that out of the way, the next closest group was defensive tackle. This is an area the Dolphins brass took a lot of heat in coming into the year. Miami decided to let Ndamukong Suh move on to bigger and better things with the Los Angeles Rams, and didn’t bring in anyone to fill his shoes. They were content to leave the position in the hands of their rising youngsters Davon Godchaux and Vincent Taylor.
In all honesty, I would have done the same thing. Godchaux and Taylor haven’t lit the world on fire, but they’ve been improving from week-to-week. Had Taylor not gone down with a season-ending injury, I think we’d be talking about him as being someone about to break out next season. That said, as all of the injuries Miami has suffered have shown, you can never have too much depth. And stopping the run is still a significant issue with this team. That starts up front.
Lucky for Miami, this coming draft is rife with talent along the defensive line.
