The Miami Dolphins had the most explosive offense in the NFL during the 2023 season. Despite that, they have room to grow and become even better in 2024 with a few tweaks to their roster. Even the best teams can improve on the margins.

Mike McDaniel has built this offense around the speed of his players. They want to put stress on every inch of the field for the defense, turning games into track meets. The results have been positive as teams struggle to contain the likes of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Raheem Moster and De’Von Achane consistently.

The need for a dual-threat tight end has been breached this offseason. For McDaniel’s offense to run as smoothly as possible, the tight end spot needs to be upgraded. Pass-first options, such as Mike Gesicki, aren’t a fit for what he is doing, as he needs his tight ends to block. That is why Luke Schoonmaker of the Dallas Cowboys has been suggested as a trade target this offseason.

NFL News & Rumors: Tyler Boyd, Ja’Lynn Polk, 2024 NFL Free Agency, 2024 NFL Draft, Miami Dolphins Updates

While a tight end is certainly a need this offseason, for the Dolphins to take things to the next level, they need to find a third wide receiver to rely on. Hill and Waddle are arguably the best duo in the NFL, but Miami gets virtually no production from any wide receivers beyond them.

Not only does Miami have a need from a production standpoint, but their depth chart is also taking a hit this offseason. With Braxton Berrios and River Cracraft hitting free agency, the team has only four wide receivers currently under contract for 2024. Along with Hill and Waddle, veteran Cedrick Wilson Jr. and Erik Ezukanma are on the roster.

That is something that needs to be addressed, whether it be in free agency or the draft. If the Dolphins opt for a free agent, they won’t be going to the top of the class, where players such as Tee Higgins, Mike Evans and Michael Pittman Jr. reside.

Instead, they could target a veteran in a lower tier, such as Tyler Boyd. Boyd has experience playing behind two No. 1 caliber receivers, as he was the slot man for the Cincinnati Bengals behind Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase. He is a willing blocker, someone who can fill that dual role in the Dolphins’ offense.

If Miami goes the way of the draft, which is certainly possible given their monetary constraints, there will be several options available. Mock drafts have some very good receivers available in the first round, but there are likely more pressing needs that will need to be addressed that early on.

Instead, the Dolphins could wait until Day 2 to find a wide receiver to add to the mix. Some suggested targets are Ladd McConkey, Devontez Walker and Ja’Lynn Polk. Tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders was also listed as a possible option and provides explosive yards after catch ability.
