University of Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has been linked to the New York Jets in the upcoming NFL Draft, and he seems thrilled about the prospect of potentially spending time with Aaron Rodgers.

Penix is expected by many to fall to the second round of the NFL Draft, and with Rodgers being 40 years old, taking Penix would make a whole lot of sense for the Jets.

“Like I said any opportunity I get, I’ll be super excited for it,” Penix said during an appearance on The Jake Asman Show this week. “Especially being able to pick Aaron Rodgers’ brain, like you said a Hall of Famer, and one of the best to ever do it in this sport. That would be amazing to be able to be around him,.”

New York acquired Rodgers in a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers last offseason and was immediately labeled a Super Bowl contender as a result.

However, Rodgers tore his Achilles on the Jets’ first offensive series of 2023, abruptly ending Gang Green’s championship aspirations.

The future Hall-of-Famer now seems healthy and is ready to return next season, but given his age, there is no doubt that New York also needs to start looking toward the future.

Taking that into consideration, selecting Penix in the second round—if he is available—would not be a bad idea.

The 23-year-old began his collegiate career at Indiana, but transferred to Washington in 2022.

He immediately stepped in as the Huskies’ starting quarterback that season, throwing for 4,641 yards, 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 65.3 percent of his passes.

Then, this past season, Penix totaled 4,903 yards, 36 touchdowns and 11 picks while completing 65.4 percent of his throws. He led Washington all the way to the national title game, where the Huskies ultimately lost to Michigan.

We’ll see if the Jets and Michael Penix Jr. do end up linking up this spring.
