Vikings’ Justin Jefferson Again Speaks On Contract Status

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson has begun to show some frustration due to his lack of a new contract, but he is trying to remain even-keeled.

The 24-year-old is entering the final year of his deal after the Vikings exercised his fifth-year option. In spite of how dominant he has been over the course of his first four seasons, Minnesota has still not reached a long-term agreement with Jefferson.

During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show this week, Jefferson seemed a bit more patient.

“I’m waiting,” Jefferson said. “I’m looking for the bag, just like you are. I’m waiting for the call to experience that with my family. It’s life-changing. I’m waiting for it.”

The question is, when will that call arrive?

Jefferson became eligible for a contract extension after his third season, but the Vikings didn’t make much of an effort to get anything done.

However, the star wide out says that there has been some dialogue between the two sides.

“There’s conversations, there’s conversations,” added Jefferson. “We’re trying to have good communication and stay on the same page. I know it’s going to come. I’m not in any rush. Like I’ve been saying throughout the season, I’m focused on football. I know what I’m going to get and what I’m worth. I feel like I have the right people, the right support system around me, to make sure I’m getting everything I serve and no one is taking advantage of me.”

Jefferson played his collegiate football at LSU and was selected by Minnesota with the 22nd overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft.

He made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons and also earned a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2022 after leading the league in both receptions (128) and receiving yards (1,809).

This past season, Justin Jefferson was limited to just 10 games due to injuries, but he still managed to catch 68 passes for 1,074 yards and five scores.

The Vikings went 7-10 this past year, due much in part to a rash of injuries up and down the roster.\
