Vikings Named Possible Landing Spot For Mac Jones

The Kirk Cousins era may be coming to an end in Minnesota, as the Vikings have gotten off to a 1-4 start this season and have shown no signs of turning the corner. Could they look to bring in New England Patriots’ quarterback Mac Jones as Cousins’ replacement?

Whether or not Minnesota attempts to trade Cousins before the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline remains to be seen, but the general consensus is that, even if Cousins plays out the rest of the season with the Vikings, he will not be under center for the club at the start of 2024.

Cousins will be a free agent this coming offseason, and with him being 35 years old and Minnesota seeming likely to start rebuilding, you have to figure he is on borrowed time with the Vikings.

So, with Cousins probably on his way out, who will Minnesota employ as its next quarterback?

Lou Scataglia of FanSided sees New England Patriots signal-caller Mac Jones as a possibility.

Jones has struggled mightily in his third season with the Patriots and has been benched in each of the last two weeks. New England even shopped him in trade talks back in the spring, but nothing came to fruition at that point.

Now, the Pats seem to be becoming increasingly frustrated with Jones’ lack of progression, and it could very well result in his exit in the coming months.

While Scataglia does not necessarily view Jones as a surefire No. 1 quarterback for the Vikings, he thinks the club could at least bring him in as competition.

Perhaps a change of scenery would do Jones some good, as he has actually regressed since his rookie campaign in 2021, and it does not seem like he is wanted in New England.

Scataglia also notes that Mac Jones could benefit from playing inside of Minnesota’s dome rather than in the cold-weather climate of Foxborough.
