The Minnesota Vikings have gotten off to an 0-3 start this season, prompting rumors that the team could blow it all up between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.
However, some Vikings fans are now ready to throw in the towel just yet.
With Minnesota recently trading for running back Cam Akers and signing offensive lineman Dalton Riser, Vikings fans have taken to social media to urge their club to sign another veteran: defensive lineman Akiem Hicks.
Hicks took notice of the love from the Minnesota faithful, and he expressed his gratitude in a social media post of his own.
Hicks played for the Bears from 2016 through 2021, making a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2018 after registering 55 tackles, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and five passes defended.
The 33-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Regina, was originally selected by the New Orleans Saints in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Hicks spent parts of three seasons with the Saints before being traded to the New England Patriots in October 2015. He enjoyed a brief stay with the Patriots and then proceeded to sign with the Bears that ensuing offseason.
Considering Hicks spent so much time in Chicago, Vikings fans are obviously very familiar with the pass rusher and have vivid memories of him wreaking havoc in Minnesota’s backfield.
Hicks remains unsigned through the first three weeks of the season.
Regardless, it doesn’t even appear that Hicks could help the sliding Vikings right the ship. Since 1979, only six NFL teams have made the playoffs after starting 0-3. Minnesota does have the benefit of there now being three Wild Card spots in each conference, but the team has shown no signs of turning things around.
The Vikings will aim to pick up their first win when they take on the Carolina Panthers in a battle of winless teams on Sunday.
