One of the goals for the New York Jets coming into the 2024 NFL offseason was to upgrade positions on their offense. Owner Woody Johnson made it clear that he wanted the team to find an upgrade at quarterback and they accomplished that goal.
Aaron Rodgers has a new backup in veteran Tyrod Taylor. Taylor played well with the New York Giants during the 2023 season and is a massive upgrade for the Jets’ quarterback depth over Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian.
With the quarterback situation figured out, the Jets can not focus on their other massive hole; the offensive line. Last season, New York’s offensive line finished near the bottom of the league in virtually every stat, torpedoing the team’s chances of producing along with poor quarterback play.
With an emphasis on improving in the trenches, the Jets have made a trade with the Baltimore Ravens. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, New York is set to acquire offensive tackle Morgan Moses from Baltimore.
NFL News & Rumors: Morgan Moses, Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets Updates
This will be Moses’ second stint with the Jets. He was with Gang Green for the 2021 season after spending seven seasons with the Washington Commanders. The last two seasons, Moses has spent with the Ravens.
In 2021, Moses played in all 17 games for the Jets, starting 16 of them. That kind of reliability has been missing from this unit the last few years as New York has been forced to shuffle their lineup because of injuries.
He will more than likely be locked into the starting right tackle role, leaving the possibility of Alijah Vera-Tucker remaining at guard. His acquisition certainly opens up different avenues for the Jets in the 2024 NFL Draft, as New York can seek out left tackle prospects knowing they have a bookend locked into place.
