New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is on the mend from a torn Achilles, but Jets head coach Robert Saleh says you would never know it by looking at him.

When asked about Rodgers’ status this week, Saleh provided a positive update.

“He looks normal to me,” said Saleh, via Dennis Waszak Jr. of the Associated Press. “It’s unbelievable. Credit to him, especially in this day and age where a hangnail can affect a game week, but this dude is grinding to try to get himself back. It just shows how much he cares. I have an appreciation for him.”

New York acquired Rodgers in a blockbuster offseason trade with the Green Bay Packers and were expected to contend for a Super Bowl because of it. However, Rodgers then proceeded to tear his Achilles on the Jets’ first offensive series of the year, ending their championship hopes.

Rodgers has been intent on returning at some point this season and was a limited participant in practice on Thursday and Friday.

Wide receiver Garrett Wilson said that Rodgers “looks ahead of schedule for sure,” but whether or not the veteran will actually come back over the last four games of the season remains to be seen.

Realistically speaking, it would not make much sense for Rodgers to retake the field, as the Jets are 5-8. While they may not be out of the playoff picture mathematically, the chances of New York seriously making the postseason at this point seem very slim.

Gang Green has ruled out Aaron Rodgers for Sunday’s matchup with the Miami Dolphins, but there is some buzz that he could ultimately make his return on Christmas Eve when the Jets battle the Washington Commanders. They would then close out the regular season with games against the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots.

New York has not made the playoffs since the 2010-11 campaign, which represents the longest active postseason drought in the NFL.
