Patriots Exec Reveals Bold Details On Team’s Trade Discussions

The New England Patriots own the third overall pick in the NFL Draft and are widely expected to take a quarterback. The problem is, they don’t really have any weapons for an incoming rookie signal-caller.

Patriots director of scouting Eliot Wolf addressed that issue with reporters earlier this week, saying that New England has had trade discussions with other teams about wide receivers.

“We’ve had conversations with teams about different scenarios,” Wolf said, via Los Talks Pats. “Not just at receiver, but at other positions. That’s definitely something we’d be open to.”

The Pats went into the offseason hoping to sign star wide out Calvin Ridley, but Ridley ultimately spurned the Patriots in favor of the Tennessee Titans.

New England didn’t really seem to have much of a backup plan, and while it did retain Kendrick Bourne and sign K.J. Osborn, its receiver room is still sorely lacking.

Some have even suggested that the Pats should roll with a receiver like Marvin Harrison Jr. at No. 3 rather than selecting a quarterback, but the chances of that happening seem slim.

The more likely scenario is that the Patriots take a signal-caller (probably either LSU’s Jayden Daniels or North Carolina’s Drake Maye) with the third pick and then add weapons later on in the draft. And apparently, a trade is also on the table.

But who could New England be targeting?

Is it possible the Pats have placed a call to the Cincinnati Bengals about disgruntled pass-catcher Tee Higgins, who requested to be dealt last month? Or maybe they have even contacted the Minnesota Vikings about Justin Jefferson?

Wolf was very vague in his answer, but, at the very least, it appears that the Patriots are at least trying to swing a deal for a wide receiver.
