The 2024 NFL offseason is an important one for the New York Jets. Their 2023 season crumbled after Aaron Rodgers was hurt only four plays into the season, as his Achilles injury dashed any hopes they had of being contenders.

This offseason, addressing the quarterback position is a must. The Jets need a better contingency plan in place in case anything happens to Rodgers again. Enduring another season with the level of production they have had in the last two would lead to some major changes made within the franchise.

Head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas have already been put on the hot seat by owner Woody Johnson. Johnson called out the team’s quarterback play from last season and put them on the hot seat, saying they need to do better than seven wins.

New York certainly has the pieces on defense to be contenders, but the offense still needs some work. Even if Rodgers didn’t get hurt in Week 1, it is fair to wonder if he would have remained healthy behind such a poor offensive line that had Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian battered every week.

The weapons offensively could also use some work. Running back Breece Hall and wide receiver Garrett Wilson are stars in the making, but beyond those two, there isn’t much to get excited about.

But, that could certainly be addressed this offseason in free agency. There are several solid wide receivers available, including Mike Evans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Eric Moody, a Fantasy Football writer for ESPN, picked Evans to the Jets as the one move they’d like to see this offseason.

“WR Mike Evans signs with the Jets. New York should take advantage of the veteran wide receiver market during free agency. There is a lot of talk about Davante Adams because of his relationship with Rodgers, but I would love it if the Jets signed Evans. Rodgers, Evans and Wilson would give defensive coordinators migraines all season long,” Moody wrote.

The Jets have to make an addition at wide receiver this offseason. Bringing in two guys Rodgers wanted from his time with the Green Bay Packers, Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, did not work out well.

Both struggled in 2023, leaving Wilson as the only consistent option in the passing game. That issue would disappear adding someone of Evans’ caliber to the mix. He has recorded 1,000+ yards in all 10 of his seasons in the NFL and would provide New York with the kind of big-bodied, downfield threat they are missing.
