Matthew Stafford
For years, Matthew Stafford has been one of the most under-appreciated quarterbacks in the NFL. His start to the 2019 season was no different as he would put himself on pace to have one of the best seasons of his career.
Sadly, a lingering back injury would cause Stafford to watch idly for the final eight games of the Detroit Lions’ schedule.
From Weeks 1-9 of last season, Stafford would air it out for 2,499 yards, 19 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Furthermore, he would finish with an aDOT of 10.6 yards (most in the NFL from Weeks 1-9) and would produce 3,097 air yards (second-most during that span). Plus, his 19 touchdown passes in the first nine weeks were the second-most in the NFL only behind Russell Wilson.
We’ve seen Stafford display uncanny toughness during his first 11 seasons in the NFL. After all, playing quarterback for the Lions is one of the toughest tests — mentally and physically.
If Stafford can pick back up from where he left off last season, he could run away with the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year trophy for the 2020 campaign.
