Similar to Roethlisberger, Cam Newton was only able to make it until Week 2 of the 2019 season before going down with a season-ending ailment. The dynamic quarterback of the Carolina Panthers would sustain a nagging foot injury during the preseason and would re-injure it in Week 2 versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

For Newton, it was the second straight season where he would have his season cut short due to injury. In 2018, the former NFL MVP would endure a shoulder injury to his throwing shoulder during a Week 10 bout with the Steelers.

Despite his efforts to play through the injury, it was evident that Newton wasn’t the same quarterback for the rest of the season.

The last time we saw a healthy version of Newton, which was in the first half of the 2018 season, he was wreaking havoc under center. The former No. 1 pick would throw for 1,893 yards, 15 touchdowns, and only four interceptions while completing 67.3 percent of his passes in Weeks 1-9 of the 2018 season. On top of that, Newton would also rush for 342 yards and another four scores in those eight contests.

Fast forward to now and Newton is seemingly on track to have a redemption tour with the New England Patriots in 2020. Some have gone as far as to say that Newton could win the NFL’s MVP Award next season.

Let’s assume that Newton is able to avoid the injury bug next season and gets a chance to play 16 games in Josh McDaniels’ offense. Given that scenario, Newton could be in a prime position to be the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year — and possibly other prestigious awards.
