Cleveland Browns
Baker Mayfield failed to build off a rookie season for the Cleveland Browns that featured the most touchdown throws by a first-year player in NFL history. With Kevin Stefanski at head coach and plenty of talent around the quarterback position, there’s plenty of reason for optimism regarding Mayfield.
During the 2019 season, Mayfield completed just 59.4% of his 534 pass attempts resulting in 3,827 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions. He had a real problem with turnovers and showed troubling inaccuracy on pass attempts, but all hope is not lost.
The Browns’ wide receiver duo featuring a now healthy Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry along with Austin Hooper and David Njoku at tight end is a group that has high potential in 2020. Let’s not forget, Nick Chubb showed he’s an elite running back last season and the Browns made key upgrades to their offensive line.
The ESPN projection for Mayfield in 2020 features him completing 295-of-472 (62.5%) pass attempts for 3,446 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. It would feature a decline in yardage but improvement in the touchdown and interception categories.
When considering the impact Stefanski had on Kirk Cousins’ development with the Minnesota Vikings, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Mayfield undergo a strong bounce-back season with the Browns’ coaching change. Surpassing ESPN’s projections wouldn’t be unrealistic either.
