Jacksonville Jaguars
A lack of quality quarterback play has been an issue for the Jacksonville Jaguars for quite some time. There was some hope that Blake Bortles would be the answer and they found out the unfortunate reality while their defense was at the top of its game. Now, it’s up to Gardner Minshew.
Minshew entered the NFL as a sixth-round pick and managed to earn the Jaguars’ starting role despite starting the season as a backup. He appeared in 14 games with 12 being starts and completed 285-of-470 (60.6%) pass attempts for 3,271 yards, 21 touchdowns, and six picks.
Being the starter from the start of the season will naturally help Minshew to post career-best totals seemingly across the board in 2020. The only issue is that he’s not going to have a whole lot of help as they appear positioned for a great position in the 20201 NFL Draft more than anything.
The ESPN projection for Minshew is that he completed 320-of-510 (62.7%) pass attempts for 3,613 yards, 19 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. They expect him to add 56 carries, 288 yards, and one touchdown using his legs in addition to his passing production.
It’s crucial Minshew manages to put together an impressive 2020 campaign for the Jaguars or he may end up getting replaced by a selection in the 2021 NFL Draft. Those projections seem fair aside from the passing touchdowns and the overall rushing production all being low.
