The Indianapolis Colts decided it was time to make a change after an underwhelming season with Jacoby Brissett in the starting quarterback role. Philip Rivers was signed to a one-year deal and will reunite with Frank Reich and Nick Sirianni.

It was a tough year for Rivers after posting what many considered as being MVP level production in 2018. Last season, he completed 390-of-591 () pass attempts for 4,615 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions with the Los Angeles Chargers.

While the Chargers had plenty of talented receiving threats, they sorely lacked sufficient offensive line production. Now, Rivers will play behind an elite offensive line with a talented backfield duo, an intriguing receiving corps, and a solid group of tight ends.

The ESPN projection for Rivers in 2020 features him completing 324-of-500 (64.8%) pass attempts for 3,715 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. Production of that level would feature a substantial decline in passing yardage but improvement in both touchdowns and interceptions.

The estimate seems fair when considering Rivers won’t be tasked with throwing an extreme volume of throws with the Colts. They have a balanced offense and will be able to set the tone by running the football to set up the passing game.
