Tennessee Titans
The quarterback situation for the Tennessee Titans is much different now than it was at this time a year ago. No longer are they waiting for Marcus Mariota to turn the corner and are committed to Ryan Tannehill as their state after an impressive 2019 season.
During his 12 appearances in 2019, Tannehill completed 201-of-286 (70.3%) pass attempts, 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He was one of the most efficient quarterbacks in the NFL and managed to lead the Titans offense in a way that resulted in a 7-3 record in his 10 starts.
With Derrick Henry setting the tone for the Titans’ offense, Tannehill should continue to thrive. There is a chance top-target A.J. Brown progresses in his development as a player considering he’s entering his second season in the NFL. Having continuity within the offense certainly doesn’t hurt either.
The ESPN projection for Tannehill in 2020 features him completing 296-of-447 (66.2%) pass attempts for 3,495 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. The expectation is that his efficiency will decline noticeably while his touchdown average goes down as well.
It seems the projections for Tannehill are quite low. He is a more efficient quarterback than someone who completes just 66.2% of their passes and throws 11 picks. The yardage seems fair for him but could higher, but ultimately, he should throw more than 23 touchdowns, too.
