Los Angeles Rams
While the rest of the NFC West seems to have a clear vision for their backfield, the Los Angeles Rams have a lot of questions. Although Todd Gurley was not effective last season, will any of their backs be much better this season? Well, a major issue with Gurley’s shortcomings last season was poor offensive line play.
The Rams were one of the league’s worst lines in the league, and they did very little to address this issue. It will be difficult but one of their running backs will have to overcome the likelihood of yet another season of poor offensive line play.
Darrell Henderson Jr. was taken in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft and he did little to impress last season. The answer for the Rams’ running back issues may have come in the form of rookie second-round draft pick Cam Akers. Akers has very good size, speed, and playmaking ability. He would be a very good weapon in the offensive mind of Sean McVay.
One important thing to note about Akers is he is coming from Florida State University. He put up very strong numbers at FSU despite very poor offensive line play and awful play calling. He doesn’t have the accolades of Dalvin Cook, but this rookie may be one of the bright young stars of the NFL.
Look for Akers to take over as the Rams’ bell-cow back by midseason. He could finish the year with 850 rushing yards, 200 receiving yards, and 8 total touchdowns. Meanwhile, expect Henderson to serve as a valuable complementary back rushing for about 400 yards and 4 touchdowns.
