San Fransisco 49ers
Who is the starting running back for the San Fransisco 49ers? Well, it doesn’t really matter, in all honestly. Each back on the roster will be given a fair amount of touches that can produce the highest quality reps for their team. The combination of skill-sets they have will continue to pose problems for the rest of the NFC West.
It is almost as if a team of scientists got into a lab and figured out just when each back should get a chance to touch the ball, which plays they should run for that back to be effective, and how long should each back get until the next man up in the rotation comes in. Whatever mad science the 49ers use, it works to perfection.
This season, the 49ers will likely take the same committee approach as last season. While Raheem Mostert is coming off a tremendous offseason, expect only a slight increase in his workload. One thing with the 49ers backfield is they are all incredibly fast. McKinnon is one player, because of his versatility as a receiver, that could be in for a very impressive year.
During an interview on the Tolbert, Krueger & Brooks show, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan had this to say regarding McKinnon’s role in the offense:
We brought Jet here for a reason a few years ago… And we thought there was a running back, who, at the time, we thought could come in here and be our starting running back, but more importantly, be a guy that we got the ball to a lot in the pass game
Look for Mostert to rush for about 850 rushing yards, with 5 rushing touchdowns, Tevin Coleman to have around 500 rushing and 5 rushing and Jerick McKinnon to have about 450 rushing yards and 600 receiving yards this season for the 49ers.
