NFL Insider Makes Bold Prediction For Giants, Daniel Jones

There has been a lot of speculation about what the future holds for the New York Giants. After an incredible first season under general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, the wheels fell all the way off in Year 2.

It quickly became evident that the gap between the Giants and other playoff teams in the NFC was bigger than originally thought. A 40-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1 got the season off on the wrong foot and Big Blue never recovered.

A lot has gone wrong for the franchise, but their biggest misstep looks to be the four-year, $160 million contract they signed Daniel Jones to. After helping lead the Giants to a win over the Minnesota Vikings during Super Wild Card Weekend on the road, Jones regressed big time in 2023.

The lack of weapons and an underwhelming offensive line were culprits, but the success Tyrod Taylor found as his replacement when injured raised some eyebrows. Even undrafted free agent Tommy DeVito has scored more than Jones did in six appearances this season.

With the 2023 season down the drain, this could be the Giants’ best chance to find a true franchise quarterback. They are tracking toward having a top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, putting them in position to select USC’s Caleb Williams or North Carolina’s Drake Maye.

Even if that is the route the Giants opt to go in, don’t expect Jones to be going anywhere. NFL insider Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report provided an update on his status, essentially guaranteeing Jones will at least be on the roster in 2024.

“Here’s what I’ll tell you. Daniel Jones has a $38-million guarantee next season. I believe it was 80 over two. He will be with the Giants next season, you can book that right now,” Schultz said. (H/T Heavy)

Now rehabbing a torn ACL, there is virtually zero chance that Jones will be moved this offseason. Even without the injury, Jones’s value across the league is low given how poorly he performed on the field.

While the No. 6 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft will be on the roster, it doesn’t mean he will be the starter. Heading into a pivotal Year 3 of their regime, Schoen and Daboll are not going to tie their success to Jones coming off an ACL tear after how little he showed this season.

Even if the Giants don’t select a quarterback near the top of the 2024 NFL Draft, they will at least bring in some veteran competition for Jones.
