Lions – Is Matt Patricia the Right Fit?
Since coming to Detroit from New England in 2018, Matt Patricia and the Lions have finished dead last in the NFC North both seasons.
A 6-10 record in 2018 was followed up by a dismal 3-12-1 season last year. While Matthew Stafford only played eight games, Stafford had nothing to do with the defense, who finished with the second-most total yards allowed in the NFL and the seventh-worst points per game.
Patricia came to Detroit in order to help out the defense. His defensive mind is what helped New England to three Super Bowls wins in his time there. While the Lions defense was fairly average in 2018, they were downright awful last season.
This is a make or break season for Patricia. The ownership has put Patricia on the hot seat and has little room for error. As a result, Patricia brought in a ton of new faces and let go plenty. But another poor showing in 2020 and Patricia could be looking for employment.
