NFL: One second-year player to watch from each team in the AFC East

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

New York Jets — Quinnen Williams

There’s no doubt that Adam Gase is facing an immense amount of pressure as he enters his second season as the head coach of the Jets. But the one second-year player that New York is hoping to see more from in 2020 is Quinnen Williams.

Williams was the No. 3 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Alabama, drawing comparisons to some of the elite interior defenders in the NFL. Despite the sky-high expectations placed on him, Williams would have a shaky rookie season — partly due to injuries.

In 13 games with the Jets, Williams would notch 28 combined tackles, 2.5 sacks, and four tackles for loss. Seeing that he was taken after Kyler Murray and Nick Bosa, New York is hoping Williams can prove that he was worthy of the No. 3 pick in last year’s draft.
