NFL: Predicting the 2020 stats for each starting RB in the NFC East

Saquon Barkley, New York Giants

As a rookie, Saquon Barkley lived up to all of the hype he received coming out of Penn State. The former Nittany Lion won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award and led the NFL with 2,028 yards from scrimmage. He outperformed all backs in the NFC East.

However, 2019 saw Barkley face an uphill battle and take a step back. He missed three games with an ankle sprain and found himself held below 50 rushing yards in three appearances.

The Giants joined Washington as the East’s two worst teams underwent quarterback transitions this past year. After nearly 16 years of service, New York sent Eli Manning to the bench in favor of rookie Daniel Jones.

Jones’ sudden assumption of the starting job likely played a role in Barkley’s sophomore slump. While he flashed potential in several games, Jones also turned the ball over more than any other quarterback in the NFC East.

With Jones entering his second season and rookie right tackle Andrew Thomas joining the team, Barkley seems set up for a bounce-back campaign in 2020. I believe he’ll return to the Pro Bowl and lead the NFC East in rushing yards and yards from scrimmage.

Prediction for Barkley in 2020: 270 attempts, 1,300 yards, and ten touchdowns

Bonus: 80 receptions, 640 yards, and three touchdowns
