NFL Scout Reveals Bold Move The Cowboys Must Make This Offseason

The Dallas Cowboys once again look like they will be one of the better teams in the NFC during the 2022 season. They got things turned around defensively under Dan Quinn last season and have the weapons to have one of the better offenses in the league. They just have to put it all together more consistently.

There will be a lot of pressure on Mike McCarthy to lead this team to some success. There were some rumblings that he would be fired following their loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, but he remains the head coach for now.

Getting more consistent is key for Dallas this upcoming season. There is a ton of talent on the roster, but they can never seem to click at the same time. If they are firing all cylinders, they are a tough team to beat.

When looking at the Cowboys roster, there aren’t many glaring holes. They will have a chance to add some depth during the 2022 NFL Draft this week, as there are a few positions that could use a little bolstering.

In the trenches are where most people will look for Dallas to go early in the draft, or the second level of their defense at linebacker. One sneaky position of need for the team is the wide receiver position.

The Cowboys had to trade Amari Cooper this offseason as he was a salary cap casualty. Cedrick Wilson Jr. also departed in free agency, signing with the Miami Dolphins. One NFL scout that talked to NFL Analysis Network believes bringing in a veteran wide receiver is the bold move the Cowboys must make this offseason.

“Looking at the Cowboys, they should be good on both sides of the ball next season. However, going out and signing Julio Jones is a move that Jerry (Jones) should make. Amari Cooper was a huge part of that offense, and while CeeDee Lamb could be a No. 1, why not give Dak Prescott a massive weapon like Julio?”

Pursuing Jones would make a lot of sense for the Cowboys. Dallas ran more than two-thirds of their plays last season with three wide receivers on the field. As things stand right now, the depth is lacking to replicate that kind of formation usage.

The team was able to re-sign Michael Gallup in free agency, so that will certainly help. But, he may miss the first few weeks of the season after suffering a knee injury in a Week 17 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. That leaves CeeDee Lamb with not much else behind him on the depth chart.

James Washington and Noah Brown are next up until Gallup is healthy enough to return. The draft will also provide some chances for the Cowboys to add some talent at wide receiver, but bringing in a proven veteran such as Jones, despite his recent injury history, is right up Jerry Jones’ alley.
