Packers’ Complementary Receivers Must Contribute
The Vikings’ corners are likely the weakest link on this stout defense. However, the Packers have had trouble finding a consistent second option at receiver. If the Packers want to win this game, they have to go at these corners.
While Devante Adams is a premier wide receiver, he cannot do everything by himself. Either Allen Lazard, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, or Equanimeous St. Brown must put some pressure on this Minnesota secondary.
Although the Vikings’ corners are not awful, they are not superstars. Most of the players on this defense have Pro Bowl or even All-Pro potential. One All-Pro receiver won’t be enough to expose this defense.
When Adams went down last season the Packers’ passing attack was not as devastating. Finding a reliable second option will be important for more than just this week going forward.
Many people thought the Packers would sign a receiver in free agency, but they did not. Then the draft came and once again, Green Bay passed up on drafting a receiver. The Packers’ front office must have seen something in their current receiving core that they like.
The Packers’ receivers all have great size and athleticism. The potential is there, however, they need to turn that potential into production.
