The 2023 season may not result in a playoff appearance for the Green Bay Packers. Their recent two-game losing streak has their playoff hopes on life support, as they will need to run the table in the final three games to have any chance of advancing.

While making the playoffs would be nice, the 2023 season was never going to be judged on wins and losses for the Packers. This was a young team and ownership and the front office were going to use this season as a way to gauge who should be part of the long-term plans for the franchise.

The most important player in that evaluation process was quarterback Jordan Love. Love was tasked with replacing the legendary Aaron Rodgers, similar to how Rodgers had to replace Brett Favre when his Green Bay tenure began.

There have been some ups and downs for the first-year starter, but he has begun to find his stride in recent weeks. Love has been playing at a high level, elevating the performance of his teammates around him despite injuries keeping the Packers from having their projected starting lineup on the field very often.

On the season, Love has completed 62.6 percent of his passes for 3,368 yards and 25 touchdowns with 11 interceptions. Eight of those interceptions came in five games from Weeks 3-7 when the Packers were struggling.

Love has responded well since that point, improving in several areas, enabling him to perform at a much higher level. In the process, he joined a special group based on his performance. Through his first 15 career starts, Love has already recorded six games with multiple touchdown passes and zero interceptions. In four of those games, Love threw at least three touchdowns.

This season, only Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers, who is an MVP candidate, has more with seven. He had eight through his first 15 career starts, and Hall of Famer Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins had seven, putting Love in some elite company at No. 3.

Even if the Packers don’t make the playoffs this season, it looks as if they have found their quarterback of the future. Love has certainly done enough to hold onto the job beyond the 2023 season as he is near the top of the NFL in several passing categories.
