Packers QB Jordan Love Mulling Possible Trade Request

The Green Bay Packers are going to have a lot to figure out in the 2023 off-season. After coming into this season with Super Bowl aspirations, the Packers are barely holding on when it comes to just qualifying for the postseason, as they are 5-8 with under a 12 percent chance of making the playoffs.

The biggest item on the to-do list for the Packers during the upcoming offseason is figuring out the quarterback situation. Future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers has given no indication about his intentions for the future, as he remains focused on this season and helping the team win as many games as possible.

Rodgers has been open about potentially sitting out should Green Bay be mathematically eliminated from the postseason, but until that occurs, he wants to play. That could come at any time, and once it does, the team could turn to Jordan Love.

Love, who was selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, has not gotten many chances with the Packers thus far in his career. In his first two seasons in the league, Rodgers won the MVP award before landing a lucrative extension during the 2022 offseason.

That has left Love in limbo, but he could be looking for a change of scenery this offseason. According to NFL Rumors on Twitter, if Rodgers comes back for another season in 2023, Love is expected to request a trade from the team.

It would be interesting to see what the Packers could get for Love in a trade. What he accomplished in his relief appearance for Rodgers in Week 12 against the Philadelphia Eagles was very impressive, drawing praise from Eagles’ cornerback Darius Slay in the process.

Based on his draft pedigree, there are likely teams that would take a shot on him as their starter. There is a reason that he was selected where he was and franchises will want to see what he can do when given the chance to play. If that performance against the Eagles wasn’t a fluke, someone is getting a very good player.

We have seen a wide array of trades completed in the last two off-seasons centered around quarterbacks. Love won’t cost what Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson did, but it could be more costly than Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, Carson Wentz or Matt Ryan.

If a team was willing to pony up multiple Day 2 picks, it would be tough for the Packers to pass up on that. If anyone is willing to offer a first-rounder, Green Bay would likely jump at that opportunity even if Rodgers is nearing the end of his career.
