The Green Bay Packers have seen a lot of changes made to their roster this offseason. They weren’t overly active in free agency, but a number of players did depart following the decision to move on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets before the 2023 NFL Draft and a few players followed him to Gang Green. Wide receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb both signed with the Jets, making it two offseasons in a row the Packers lost numerous pass catchers.
In addition to the wide receiver losses, tight end Robert Tonyan also left, signing with the Chicago Bears. That left Green Bay dangerously thin at both pass-catching spots, which they addressed with multiple selections during the draft.
However, there is one veteran that remains unsigned that players on the Packers’ roster would like to see return to the team. That player is tight end, Marcedes Lewis. All-Pro return man, Kaisean Nixon, let his feelings be known on Twitter about wanting Lewis back in the fold.
He wasn’t the only member of the team that would love to see Lewis back in Green Bay. Veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas echoed the sentiments of Nixon while sharing his post on Twitter, stating that Lewis is the definition of a leader.
Lewis has spent the last five seasons of his career with the Packers. While he doesn’t offer much as a pass catcher anymore, he is extremely valuable to the team as an in-line blocker, acting as essentially a sixth offensive lineman. Lewis is also a respected veteran in the locker room, evident by the comments Nixon and Douglas made.
Green Bay is ready to move in a different direction at the tight end spot after selecting Luke Musgrave in the second round and Tucker Kraft in the third. Having a veteran of Lewis’s caliber on the roster to help teach them the ropes would be a smart move by the Packers.
