The Pittsburgh Steelers are in serious need of some depth at wide receiver behind George Pickens.

The Steelers did take University of Michigan wide out Roman Wilson in the third round of the NFL Draft, but they still need more proven talent at the position.

Alan Saunders of Steelers Now suggests that Pittsburgh should take a look at former New Orleans Saints star Michael Thomas, who remains available in free agency.

Thomas is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played 10 games and logged 39 catches for 448 yards and a touchdown.

The 31-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was selected by the Saints in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Thomas immediately established himself as a top-flight receiver, catching 92 passes for 1,137 yards and nine scores during his rookie season. He then went on to make three straight trips to the Pro Bowl between 2017 and 2019, earning back-to-back First-Team All-Pro selections in the two latter years.

His best campaign during that span came in 2019, when he led the NFL in both receptions (149) and receiving yards (1,725) to go along with nine touchdowns.

However, in 2020, Thomas suffered an ankle injury that permanently altered the trajectory of his career.

He has played in a grand total of 20 games over the last four seasons, and this past year, he missed time due to a knee issue.

Thomas would certainly be worth a gamble on a cheap one-year deal, especially for a team like the Steelers that is in dire need of help at wide receiver.
