Offense faltered

After exploding for 429 total yards and 24 points last week, Washington struggled to score a touchdown against a young Colts defense.

Running the ball was one of the main issues. Washington only rushed for 65 yards yesterday, as Week 1 stars Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson had 21 yards all together after storming for 161 yards against the Cardinals. The biggest rushing play came as wide receiver Jamison Crowder took a reverse play for 29 yards on the opening drive.

With the rushing woes, the team also struggled to find consistency through the air. Quarterback Alex Smith had a decent performance, completing 33 of 46 passes and throwing 292 yards, but most of the passes went to Thompson, who had 13 catches for 92 yards in a losing effort.

For the second straight week, Smith struggled to find a connection with his receiving corps. Wide receivers Paul Richardson Jr. and Josh Doctson made key drops and Crowder didn’t make a huge impact.

Even with the shaky performance, Washington still outgained Indianapolis in total yards and had possession of the ball for over 30 minutes but this led them to measly nine points against an unproven Colts defense.
