New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been handed his punishment for the incident that he was part of in Las Vegas in February 2022. The star running back will be suspended for the first three games of the 2023 season as a result of violating the league’s personal-conduct policy.

On Friday, Alvin Kamara spoke about the incident and publically addressed it for the first time. He had a meeting with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, which went well in his opinion, while also sharing how much regret he has over the incident.

“I never want to be involved in something where someone gets hurt or severely injured or anything. Poor judgement on my end. Definitely a bad decision,” Kamara told reporters on Friday. “I was completely wrong. I embarrassed the Saints, I embarrassed my family and my mother. I embarrassed myself, embarrassed the city, and the shield, obviously, embarrassed the NFL.”

Alvin Kamara was initially indicted on February 16th for an alleged assault that took place during Pro Bowl Weekend in 2022. He, along with Indianapolis Colts cornerback Chris Lammons and two other men, were indicted. The incident took place on February 5th and the four defendants were arrested on February 6th.

In July, Alvin Kamara pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of breach of peace for his role in the altercation, which is a misdemeanor. 30 hours of community service and a fine of $500 were ordered for the Saints star. He also had to pay $105,196.17 in restitution to the victim, Darnell Green, for medical expenses that were past due as part of the plea that was submitted.

“I just tired to do my best to kind of keep it as much away from the media, as much away from the team as I could,” Kamara said. “Obviously, it’s hard to do that when you’ve got an incident like that. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t tough. Lost a lot throughout this ordeal. Definitely not looking for any pity. Not looking for someone to give me a pat on the back and say it’s OK. I know what I did, I know what I was involved in. I definitely take responsibility and that’s what’s part of being a man and growing.

“From here, I’ve just got to make the right decisions and the right choices.”

Alvin Kamara will now face the repercussions of his actions as he will be forced to miss the first three games of the 2023 season. In his place, free agent signing Jamaal Williams and rookie third-round pick Kendre Miller will handle backfield duties.

They could be joined by free agent Kareem Hunt, as he is also visiting the Saints. Dwayne Washington also remains on the roster and will likely be the No. 3 running back to open the season.
