The San Francisco 49ers are heading back to the Super Bowl for the first time in four seasons. They will be facing off against a familiar foe, as it will be a rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs, who have appeared in four out of the last five Super Bowls played.
It wasn’t an easy road for the 49ers, who had to complete comebacks in both of their playoff games. In the Divisional Round against the Green Bay Packers, it was a fourth-quarter comeback in a game that was constantly back-and-forth with the largest lead being only seven points.
This past weekend against the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship Game, they put forth a historical comeback. San Francisco surrendered the first 14 points of the game and trailed by 17 at halftime. But, some mistakes by the Lions and timely big plays for the 49ers resulted in them taking home a 34-31 victory.
However, it wasn’t all positive coming out of the win for the 49ers. Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that there are a few players dealing with some injuries after the game against the Lions, including tight end George Kittle.
NFL News & Rumors: George Kittle, Ambry Thomas, San Francisco 49ers Updates
Kittle is dealing with a toe injury that has him listed as day-to-day according to Shanahan. Cornerback Ambry Thomas is also day-to-day as he deals with an ankle issue. Both updates were provided by Nick Wagoner of ESPN via X.
Luckily for the 49ers, both players will have some extra time to heal up and rest. The 49ers and Chiefs will have a bye this weekend before kicking off Super Bowl 58 on February 11th in Las Vegas.
Kittle didn’t have a huge game against the Lions, catching only two passes for 27 yards. But he was integral in their comeback against the Packers, catching four passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. With Deebo Samuel going down because of injury in the game, the 49ers needed other players to step up and Kittle was one of them to answer the call.
