The Seattle Seahawks put forth a season-defining and saving performance against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15. On Monday Night Football with their season on the line, the Seahawks pulled off the upset, winning 20-17.

It was a 92-yard touchdown drive near the end of the fourth quarter that sealed the deal for Seattle, who was starting Drew Lock in place of the injured Geno Smith. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Seahawks and kept them alive in the NFC playoff picture.

Making the playoffs for two straight seasons after moving on from franchise quarterback Russell Wilson would be quite an impressive feat for head coach Pete Carroll. However, there is a chance that his time as the Seahawks head coach is coming to an end.

NFL News & Rumors: Pete Carroll, Dan Quinn, Seattle Seahawks Updates

Former Seahawks linebacker KJ Wright has shared during his podcast that Carroll is frustrated with his current group because his message isn’t getting across in the locker room. That could lead to some changes being made, as retirement has been brought up as a possible move.

Should Carroll opt to retire, the Seahawks would need to find a new person to lead the team. In the opinion of Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, Seattle already has a successor in mind; current Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn.

“Does Pete Carroll retire in Seattle? I don’t think so, but I’ve heard a lot over the last few weeks in these circles, like the people who work in these circles and the coaching carousel circles, that would Dan Quinn be the successor in Seattle if Pete Carroll were to hang it up after this year?” Breer said during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show.

Quinn has been a popular head coaching candidate in recent seasons but has opted to remain with the Cowboys in his role as defensive coordinator. Could that change if the opportunity to coach in Seattle was presented to him?

NFL News & Rumors: Pete Carroll, Dan Quinn, Seattle Seahawks Updates

Quinn was part of the Seahawks staff for two seasons in 2009 and 2010 as an assistant head coach and defensive line coach before leaving for the University of Florida. He was then defensive coordinator for the Seahawks in 2013 an 2014, overseeing the vaunted Legion of Boom.

Quinn has NFL head coaching experience as he was the head man for the Atlanta Falcons from 2015-2020. He was the head coach during the infamous Super Bowl in which the Falcons blew a 28-3 lead to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

While Quinn has been hesitant to take a head coaching job, succeeding a person he has worked with could make the transition a little easier. Seattle is an organization he knows well and returning there could be enticing enough for him to consider taking another crack at being a head coach.
