The Seattle Seahawks have been linked to New York Jets defensive end Carl Lawson with the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline looming, according to national NFL writer Cam Marino.

Marino added that the Jets will “definitely” be moving Lawson before next Tuesday.

Lawson’s 2023 campaign has been hindered due to a back issue that had been plaguing him since the summer. However, even since returning, Lawson has not played, which has led to him publicly bemoaning his lack of a role with the team.

Earlier this week, Lawson said that he was “a football player, not a cheerleader” when discussing his lack of activity this season. He has been a healthy scratch in two games and has logged just three tackles in four appearances.

Lawson signed a three-year deal with the Jets back in 2021 but missed his entire debut season in New York as a result of a torn Achilles he suffered in training camp. Last year, Lawson got back on the field and contributed, playing in every game and registering 33 tackles and seven sacks.

The 28-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Auburn, was originally selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He spent the first four years of his career with the Bengals and had a productive tenure with the club, amassing a grand total of 20 sacks during his time there. He registered 8.5 sacks during his rookie campaign, which remains a career high for him.

The Seahawks are 4-2 and have actually have one of the better pass rushes in the NFL this season, posting 23 sacks thus far. However, they seem to want to add some more talent to bolster their chances of making the playoffs for a second straight year.

Perhaps Seattle could find a better way to utilize Carl Lawson than the Jets.

The Seahawks will host the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
