Michigan Wolverines quarterback JJ McCarthy caused a stir on Saturday by disclosing one intriguing team he engaged with during the NFL Combine. That team was the Seattle Seahawks.
In an interview with NFL Network, McCarthy shared that he had discussions with several teams in need of quarterbacks, which was to be expected. However, he also mentioned meeting with the Seahawks, sparking speculation among football enthusiasts.
Despite the presence of Geno Smith on the Seahawks roster, recent contract adjustments have solidified Smith’s position as the team’s quarterback for 2024. Nonetheless, at 34 years old, Smith’s age raises questions about the team’s long-term quarterback plans.
While McCarthy may be interested in joining Seattle, it could prove to be a formidable task. With the Seahawks holding the No. 16 pick, it appears increasingly unlikely that McCarthy will still be available by then. Nevertheless, the Seahawks are diligently exploring their options at the quarterback position.
During the 2023 season with the Wolverines, JJ McCarthy ended up completing 72.3 percent of his pass attempts for 2,991 yards, 22 touchdowns, and four interceptions. He also picked up 202 yards and three scores on the ground.
It remains to be seen how this potential connection between McCarthy and the Seattle Seahawks will unfold, but it certainly adds an intriguing dimension to the NFL Combine discussions.
