The Pittsburgh Steelers are on the hunt for competition alongside Kenny Pickett this offseason, but the top choice many have touted might not be their ideal fit.

Justin Fields’ name has frequently surfaced in connection with the Steelers this offseason, gaining even more traction in recent days.

Speculation has intensified to the point where they’re reportedly one of three teams reaching out to the Chicago Bears regarding a potential trade. Various projected trade scenarios have attempted to outline what it would take for Pittsburgh to acquire Fields.

However, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette offers a differing perspective. In his weekly chat, Dulac suggests that perhaps the excitement surrounding Fields is somewhat exaggerated and that the Steelers’ criteria for a quarterback may not necessarily align with the allure of a high-profile trade.

“I can’t imagine Fields wanting to sign with a team where he won’t be the No. 1 QB. And I don’t believe the Steelers are in the market for a No. 1 QB.”

While the Steelers remain frontrunners in the race for Justin Fields, reports indicate that there are a few proponents of the young quarterback within their coaching staff and front office.

Nevertheless, if circumstances don’t fall into place, the team will explore other options, with Mason Rudolph emerging as the most probable signing for them this offseason.

All of that being said, it will be very interesting to keep an eye on the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason. They need to make some moves to get back into contention and quarterback is a major need if they don’t believe that Kenny Pickett can turn things around.
