Should Houston Texans Fans Panic?
I think it’s too early to panic for any fan of a 0-2 team.
Only 10.9 percent of units that start their season 0-2 make the playoffs. If you’re a fan of the Texans and you thought they were a playoff team heading into 2018, have faith. The Texans will take on the 0-2 New York Giants in Week 3. The G-Men just surrendered six sacks to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. We could see the Texans defensive unit come alive this week.
However, if they lose and go to 0-3, then it’s time to start worrying.
The good thing about Houston’s first two losses is neither game was a blowout. The Texans were a touchdown and point-after attempt away from tying the New England Patriots in the fourth quarter. They only lost by a field goal against the Titans. The Giants, however, were outplayed by the Jaguars in Week 1 and the Cowboys in Week 2. If Houston is the team I think it is, the team will beat the vulnerable Giants. But they will have to double team wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., and prevent running back Saquon Barkley from setting the tone on the ground. Quarterback Eli Manning is past his prime, and he’s not a play-extending quarterback like the Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson.
The panic button should be pressed when the chances of winning the division and the Wild Card are out of reach. Once the Texans are in midseason form, I think they will be in the Wild Card hunt. The AFC South may appear to be up for grabs, but the 2018 Jaguars look like a better team than last year’s playoff roster.
Seeing a full-fledged Texans offensive unite go up against the Jags defensive unit makes for some good football. I wouldn’t give up on Houston just yet.
