This Blockbuster Bills-Cardinals Trade Sends DeAndre Hopkins To Buffalo

The Buffalo Bills have a few needs remaining on their roster this offseason. They suffered a major loss in free agency when linebacker Tremaine Edmunds decided to move on, going from Buffalo to the Chicago Bears. His spot in the lineup has yet to be filled.

In addition to his loss, the team is still on the search for an adequate upgrade at wide receiver. Stefon Diggs remains a star, but they aren’t getting nearly enough production from the players behind him.

Gabriel Davis has been boom-or-bust throughout his career and entering the final season on his rookie contract, it will be interesting to see how much the Bills are willing to pay him. While his big games are certainly nice, finding a more consistent option to pair with Diggs would be ideal.

Addressing both of those needs in the 2023 NFL Draft would certainly be difficult. Buffalo has single picks in each of the first six rounds, but finding immediate contributors will be difficult. This is a team with Super Bowl aspirations, so head coach Sean McDermott will not want to rely on too many young players with large roles.

That could lead the Bills to the trade market. Veteran help can be found there and we have seen more and more trades getting completed in recent years in the NFL. If the Bills want to get aggressive in filling their wide receiver needs, they should make a call to the Arizona Cardinals.

Earlier in the offseason, it was reported that the Cardinals were looking to trade wide receiver, DeAndre Hopkins. His market has been very cold as the asking price, a second-round pick and another asset, was deemed too high. It is hard to argue against that given Hopkins’ contract and the fact he has missed 15 games the last two seasons.

But, when on the field, Hopkins remains as productive as ever. Pairing him with Diggs would provide Josh Allen with the kind of consistent receiver the team is seeking. What could a trade between the Bills and Cardinals look like?

A suggested trade package over at Bleacher Report is Buffalo sending their third-round pick, No. 91 overall, to Arizona in exchange for the former All-Pro receiver. The Cardinals are in a reset after undergoing a regime change this offseason.

Getting any draft capital in return for Hopkins, especially a Day 2 pick, should be considered a win. With rumors swirling that Hopkins could be released, the Cardinals don’t reach their original asking price but come away with something, which is better than releasing him and getting nothing in return.

Hopkins joins Diggs and Davis to make one of the best wide receiver trios in the NFL. When you add in tight end Dawson Knox, Allen has one of the most talented group of pass catchers to target in the league. An already explosive offense should find more consistency with Hopkins taking some of the pressure off of Diggs as the go-to No. 1 receiver.
