Vikings A Potential Trade Destination For Jerry Jeudy?

The Minnesota Vikings had what could be a season-changing victory over the San Francisco 49ers to close out Week 7 on Monday Night Football. They are now 3-4 on the season, winning both of their games since star wide receiver Justin Jefferson was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring issue.

The injury to Jefferson clouded the future for the Vikings, but things have gotten much clearer in the last two weeks; they will not be sellers ahead of the deadline. More than likely, Minnesota will be looking to add talent to the roster.

The wide receiver position, in the opinion of Shawn Lealos of Give Me Sport, is one that the Vikings could look to address. Jerry Jeudy of the Denver Broncos is the player he believes the team could target ahead of the October 31st deadline.

“The Minnesota Vikings have not had a good start to the season and when they lost Justin Jefferson for several weeks to injury, things went from bad to worse. While most pundits think that the Vikings are going to be sellers this season, they still have a veteran quarterback, and Jefferson is due back before season’s end.

They need someone to replace Jefferson’s production in the interim and possibly work alongside him when he returns. Jerry Jeudy is someone that is almost surely going to be on the trading block as the Broncos try to start their much-needed rebuild.”

In Jefferson’s place to this point, the Vikings have been counting on rookie Jordan Addison, K.J. Osborn and Brandon Powell. They have certainly done a solid job attempting to replace arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL.

While Jeudy would certainly be an upgrade, committing so many assets to the wide receiver position is unlikely. On top of whatever draft capital it takes to acquire him, an extension could be in the works next offseason as well.

Would the Vikings be able to find enough money for him long-term with Jefferson likely resetting the market with his next contract? They also used a first-round pick on Addison this year. That is a lot to commit to one position, especially with so much uncertainty surrounding Kirk Cousins and the quarterback position beyond 2023.

If the Vikings are going to make an addition ahead of the deadline, it is hard to imagine it being a splash such as Jeudy. If they want wide receiver help, a veteran on an expiring contract, such as Parris Campbell of the New York Giants, would be a more feasible target.
