WR Cam Sims
For as much as Guice’s injury opened up opportunities for other running backs, on Saturday the Redskins suffered another season-ending injury when receiver Robert Davis went down with a leg injury. Davis, a second-year receiver battling for a roster spot, was having an impressive camp. He was also strong in the first preseason game. Now, his absence means a host of players are battling for two – or more likely three – roster spots at receiver behind Jamison Crowder, Josh Doctson and Paul Richardson.
Veteran Brian Quick, Maurice Harris and rookies Trey Quinn, Cam Sims and Simmie Cobbs are the candidates. Harris is almost a lock. And he should be, as Gruden talks about him much like he did former Redskin, Ryan Grant, whom the coach loved. Harris has not only had a strong camp, he has flashed in the regular season, too.
Enter Cam Sims.
Nice release and widening of the route by Cam Simms to work into the C2 hole between CB and safety. Great ball by McCoy to hit that hole. Simms then breaks a tackle to turn it into a huge gain. #Redskins pic.twitter.com/DU5X6BueKu

An undrafted rookie from Alabama, Sims is 6’5”, 214 pounds and caught two balls for 74 yards last week. One play went for 57 yards in which Sims showed good awareness along the sideline and surprising quickness for someone of his size. If Sims can show Gruden and the Redskins he can make an impact on special teams he could make this team. His size and hands could be an asset in the red zone for a team that has struggled there.
The preseason is vital for Sims.
