Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

2. Defense wins championship

Washington’s defensive unit played their absolute best yesterday. The group was able to dominate Dallas offense causing two critical turnovers in the process. Washington’s defensive line with Jonathan Allen, Da’Ron Payne and Matt Ioannidis showed their promise in a dominating fashion. The group sacked Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott four times and stuffed workhorse Ezekiel Elliott to 33 rushing yards on 15 attempts. That is Elliott’s second-lowest total of his career.

Washington’s was able to contain Prescott throughout the contest. He finished the game with 273 passing yards and a touchdown off of 22 completions. The quarterback also rushed for 33 yards as well. The only big play the team gave up was an 81-yard score from rookie Michael Gallup in the second quarter.

Having a slow start this season, both Ryan Kerrigan and Preston showed up when they needed to. The duo kept Prescott under pressure all game as Kerrigan had five tackles and two sacks in the winning effort. In the fourth quarter, the pair forced a strip sack score on Prescott to give Washington a ten point lead late in the game. D.J. Swearinger had four tackles in the contest including a strip fumble in the first quarter.

The Redskins are playing lights out defense early this season and look to continue their dominance on the road against the Giants.
