1. Subpar Washington Offense
Washington’s offense netted a total of 305 yards yesterday afternoon, and Adrian Peterson was the focal point of their attack. With injuries to running back Chris Thompson and wide receivers Jamison Crowder and Paul Richardson Jr., the future Hall of Famer pounded for 99 rushing yards on 24 carries including eight yards from the air.
Even with Peterson’s great effort, Washington’s passing attack struggled throughout the day. Alex Smith completed 14 passes out of 25 attempts for 178 yards and a touchdown. This was Smith’s second-lowest passing total this season as he couldn’t find a rhythm with his receiving options.
The team’s leading receiver was the backup scat back Kapri Bibbs who mustered 56 yards (44 receiving and 13 rushing) from scrimmage yesterday. Tight End Jordan Reed only had two receptions for 43 yards and Josh Doctson had his most productive game of the young season with three grabs for 42 yards.
Smith was also missing many vital plays yesterday afternoon. Including a game-sealing touchdown grab from tight end Jeremy Sprinkle in the red zone.
Washington has to find more consistency with their passing game to be the leading contender in the NFC. Maybe a DeVante Parker or Amari Cooper could help give this offense a boost.
