A.J. Green
Throughout the 2019 season, it was apparent that the Packers were lacking at the wide receiver position. Outside of Davante Adams, Green Bay deployed Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Geronimo Allison, and Allen Lazard.
The Packers were confident that one of those guys would emerge as the clear-cut No. 2 option in the offense. On the contrary, none of them consistently showed enough to be given a prominent role. Additionally, Allison is slated to become a free agent next month.
With a need at wide receiver, A.J. Green is arguably the biggest name available in free agency. There’s no doubt that it would be fun to see Adams and Green catching passes from Aaron Rodgers.
At the same time, Green is probably going to garner a lucrative contract on the open market. Instead of spending a massive amount of money in free agency, the Packers would be better off shoring up their receiver position through the draft.
Heading into the 2020 NFL Draft, the Packers have the No. 30 pick in the first round. Even though Green would drastically improve the offense — if healthy — drafting a receiver or two would be just as effective.
