3 ideal targets for the 49ers with the No. 31 pick in the NFL Draft

Tristan Wirfs, G, Iowa

After releasing last year’s starting right guard Mike Person, the team will likely look to fill this hole through the upcoming draft. The front office did go out and sign veteran guard Tom Compton to a one-year deal, but it’s probably a move just to add some insurance at the position.

Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs will more than likely be available at the end of the first round, giving the 49ers an opportunity to potentially snag their right guard of the future.

Wirfs played primarily at tackle during his collegiate career, but many scouts project him as a guard at the next level, mostly due to his weak vertical pass sets against edge rushers. Playing him inside will mask some of that weakness.

He would be able to come in and start right away for the Niners as well, which makes him a strong candidate to be drafted by the 49ers at the No. 31 pick.
