3 ideal targets for the Vikings at No. 22 overall in the NFL Draft

Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama

While there may be some irony in the Vikings using the first round pick they acquired by trading his brother, Trevon Diggs would be a needed prospect to add into the mix. He’s one of the most talented defensive backs in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com stated that Diggs projects as being ‘a future staring press-man corner’ and mentioned ‘future consideration at free safety’ is also a potential option.

Talented prospect with rare combination of size, strength and ball skills. As a former receiver, Diggs has an instinctive feel for his opponent’s plans and uses his size and athleticism to disrupt the blueprint when possible. The foot agility and short-area burst are good for his size and helped keep completion totals low. He’s inconsistent staying in phase with downfield routes and long speed is his kryptonite, causing grabbing and holding when panic sets in. He’s a future starting press-man corner with the hands and ball tracking to take it away and should benefit from more help over the top as a pro. Future consideration at free safety is possible considering his size and skill set.

Diggs is a big corner at 6’1″ with great strength to be able to cover bigger receivers. That’s something they will need to replace after moving on from Xavier Rhodes. He set the tone at the corner spot for years for the Vikings and his previous form was missed.

It’s worth noting, there was a report stating the Vikings are reportedly ‘likely not considering’ Diggs in the NFL Draft. Perhaps the relation to Stefon is the deterrent for Minnesota but it would be advantageous for them to overlook that in this instance.
