3 instant reactions to the Eagles’ Week 1 loss against Washington

Carson Wentz Was Uneven

Carson Wentz drove the Philadelphia Eagles down the field by taking advantage of the matchups with his TE’s for an early 7-0 lead on their first possession of the game. He then hit Dallas Goedert for another score then Wentz started to unravel.

After going up 17-0, Wentz and the offense looked lost. The main reason for that was not just the playcalling but their inability to run the ball with any success. Wentz attempted 42 passes on the day and completed just 24 for 270 yards.

Another factor was just his 6.4 yards per completion. Everything was over the middle to the TE’s. The Eagles have speed but with Washington blitzing, Wentz was not able to connect downfield.

His two interceptions put Washington back in the game. His passes were sailing high. And some of the balls that Goedert and Ertz caught were low. Wentz looked off today and may have been shaken by the Washington pressure up front. He fumbled twice and lost one and could have had a third interception if not for a player being called offsides.
