The Defense Must Play with Better Discipline
While they did hold the Colts to only 20 points, the Jaguars’ defense must have more discipline going forward. Many drives were about to end, however, bad penalties let the drive continue. Jacksonville even had a turnover that was offset by a defensive holding call.
The Jaguars are a team looking to compete. If they play as well as they did today consistently, they could possibly make the playoffs. However, Jacksonville must limit their mistakes.
Another instance where the discipline came into question was when the Colts ran screens. The Jaguars linebackers must snuff those plays out. On one Colts touchdown drive, they had two huge screenplays. On that was a receiving touchdown by Nyheim Hines.
The Colts’ offense was touching Jacksonville on screens and swing passes. The Jaguars’ linebackers have to be aware of this and put a stop to those screens. While the linebackers did have a few bad plays in coverage, they were much better than in years past. Myles Jack is clearly a much better outside linebacker than a middle linebacker.
The signing of Joe Schobert is going to pay off in a big way. Jack could finally be in for a Pro-Bowl season. Schobert was a bit iffy at times, but he is a major improvement and just needs to be a bit more disciplined in coverage.
